Slow Cooker Steak Diane
Steak Diane is a classic dish that has been enjoyed by food connoisseurs since the 1940s. Normally the dish is made by pan-frying a steak and then serving it with a sauce made from butter, shallots, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, cream and sometimes brandy. Today we are making it in the slow cooker, producing tender delicious meat and a lip smackingly good sauce. This recipe is so easy, I’m sure you’ll be adding it to your permanent rotation soon.
The origins of Steak Diane are somewhat uncertain, with many people claiming to have invented the dish. However, it is generally agreed that the dish originated in the United States in the mid-20th century. It is believed to have been named after the Roman goddess Diana, who was associated with the hunt and wild game. One popular theory is that the dish was created at the Drake Hotel in New York City in the 1940s. According to this theory, a chef at the hotel named Beniamino Schiavon created the dish for a regular customer named Diana. Schiavon named the dish after his customer and it became an instant hit. Another theory is that the dish was created by a chef named Joe Santini at the St. Moritz Hotel in New York City. According to this theory, Santini created the dish for a regular customer named Diane who wanted a steak dish that was different from anything else on the menu. Santini named the dish after his customer and it soon became one of the most popular dishes at the hotel.
Regardless of its origins, Steak Diane remains a popular dish today. It is often served in high-end restaurants and is a favourite of many foodies and steak lovers. The dish is known for its rich and flavourful sauce, which is poured over the pan-fried steak or in Australia, over schnitzel, which is usually served with a side of potatoes or vegetables.
